eCommerce Site Performance

Sometimes your website could look well but it might not be performing well, technically.

It can be difficult to convert customers if the site takes a while to open or shows lots of broken links, perhaps there could be browser difficulties. Here is some advice and technical terms you and your team need to be aware of.

Most techies are familiar with these terms but as a business owner or eCommerce manager you need to be familiar not only with these terms but also with the negative/positive effect these have on your user experience and subsequent conversion rates (Revenue). Your Google analytics will highlight some of these issues.

  • Run Google page speed check – http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/
  • Move inline javascript to .js include files
  • Move inline CSS files to .css files
  • Compress all images
  • Make sure your server can handle the load
  • Set up disk caching
  • Set up GZIP Compression
  • Upgrade Server memory
  • Move database to a dedicated server
  • Code CSS for a fast rendering time
