The Challenge

Condron Concrete is one of the largest precast concrete and plastic manufacturers in Ireland.  It is based in Offaly, and specialises largely in concrete pipes and the drainage systems that use them, as well as concrete roof tiles.  It was founded in 1969, and has been growing steadily to become one of the largest manufacturers of building materials in Ireland; however, it needed to expand its customer base, particularly in the UK.

Strategy

Emarkable’s strategy for Condron included expanding the company’s profile by making the online platform an essential resource for architects, engineers, planners and builders; in fact, everybody who might be involved in projects that used their products. 

Building effective online communication platforms is something that Emarkable does for most of its clients, and it almost always involves developing the unique selling points and the advantages of the products with members of staff.  Condron has many specialist technicians and managers, and so this part of the initial research involved interviews with most of the sales and technical team.  Emarkable needed to ensure, not only that the technical details about the products were accurate, but also that the website user knew who to contact in the event of more detailed information being required.  They worked to ensure that every product was described comprehensively and accurately.

The technology involved in precast concrete is developing all the time, which means that Emarkable has to regard this commission as an on-going project in order to ensure that the website content remains up to date.  Emarkable and Condron Concrete have established a content revision process with a detailed version control mechanism to ensure the most up to date specifications are on site.

The content creation process involved a high level of technical writing by Emarkable’s copy writers, who needed to make themselves familiar with new technology and with potential developments.  In addition, the photography had to show sharp detail, and to be attractively displayed in order to attract and hold the attention of expert end users.  In addition to the website, the sales brochures also needed to be brought up to date, and the content carefully checked for accuracy.
