Social Media update – No Irish Release Date for Facebook at Work

It is no surprise that Facebook has taken the leap into “on-the-job” social networking in recent times. While the company has not yet set a firm release date, we have been given a bit of insight into what features that it will bring to the table. Let’s take a look at what employees and managers can expect.

A Similar Flavour

The official screenshots which have been provided display the same familiar Facebook messenger system, so all user transitions should be simple. However, we should note that as opposed to the “broad” approach that their normal mobile app has taken, this variant is specifically designed to be used within an organisation. So, this messenger boasts several unique features such as:

  • A dedicated news feed specifically for employees.
  • Work-related groups, messages and events.
  • A separation from public posts that are visible to all.

Already Actively in the Works

According to Facebook, this application has come far enough to now be tested within pilot programmes. For the time being, this system will only be on display within Android and iOS retail centres. However, it is important to note that as the screenshots have already been released, it should not be too long before it is available to workplaces within Ireland.

Competition?

Software packages such as Yammer have already made a pronounced impact within this field and some are questioning whether or not Facebook can snatch up a good slice of this market. Due to the familiarity of Facebook and its existing popularity with mobile users, it is likely that the application will catch on quite quickly. However, it still remains to be seen if this massive conglomerate will come to dominate the world of work-related messenger services like it has the social media landscape.
